Causes and remedies for facial pores

The tiny dots that one may have noticed on their skin are actually the openings of the hair follicles known as pores. Each of these pores has a sebaceous gland that can produce oils in the skin. The areas where the pores become highly noticeable are on the face; in regions like the nose and the forehead. These are the regions where the sebaceous glands are bigger. However, the size of these pores is based on the genes of the person as well.

Causes of facial pores
The size of the facial pores is also determined by the type of skin the individual has. If the person has a naturally dry skin type, then they appear to have no pores on it. Whereas individuals with a naturally oily skin type have larger, more evident pores on their face. There are many more factors that play an essential role in the determination of the size of the pores. The trapped sebum and the dead skin cells which are responsible for the development of the pimples also result in stretching of the pores.

The sun’s ultraviolet rays lead to the weakening of the collagen that provides support to the pores and is responsible for keeping them tight. The weakening of the collagen is also responsible for making the facial pores bigger. As one’s age advances, the loss of collagen occurs naturally which can cause an increase in the size of the pores. The size of the pore can be permanently widened when trauma is caused to the skin by way of squeezing a pimple.

Remedies for facial pores
Keeping the pores clear is an effective means of making the pores appear to be smaller in size. During the day one can opt to use cosmetic and non-comedogenic moisturizers. One should avoid the usage of the products that contain heavy ingredients such as mineral oils and petrolatum as they may irritate the pores and make them look bigger.

One should always wash their face by using a gentle cleanser before they go to bed so that the entire day’s dirt and the applied makeup does not cause clogging of the pores.

Cleansing of the face after and before working out should also be done in order to prevent the settling and stretching of the pores due to the sweat. Using a power brush to cleanse the face is an ideal option as it is more effective than cleansing with the hands.

Exfoliation of the skin is also imperative as the dead cells that enlarge the facial pores are removed. One should exfoliate their skin on a daily basis. But in case an individual has sensitive skin, then exfoliation should be done 1-3 times a week. Masks available over-the-counter, and lotions or gels that contain sloughing ingredients can be chosen. One should remember that when they choose to exfoliate their skin, they also need to make use of an SPF 15 product on a daily basis. This is because when the skin is exfoliated, and the dead cells have been removed, the skin will automatically become extremely sensitive to the ultraviolet rays.
